Kent Manning’s Bio
Kent Manning’s Bio
I’m in my 11th year as an Educational Technology Teacher for 46 elementary schools in the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. I started my career as a Teacher Assistant in 1981 and subsequently spent about 14 years as a junior division classroom teacher before taking on my system role.
I have a particular passion for digital storytelling and how the use of audio and visual technologies can help students and adults tell their story. I’ll be presenting a Poster Session at ISTE 2010 in Denver. My topic will be Motivating Boy Writers. I’ve just been invited to be a Spotlight Speaker at ECOO 2010.
Last year I worked on the Innoteach Project Team. We’re a group of 12 Ontario educators. We developed innovative, technology enhanced, curriculum related learning resources for teachers across the province to use in their classrooms. My contribution is called Digital Persuasive Storytelling. Students were asked to answer the question, “Should humans engage in deforestation”?
For fun I like to find a quiet lake, go kayaking and take some photos along the way. Pictured is a quiet spot in Frontenac Park just north of Kingston, Ontario.
I’m part of the Presenters on the Road programme for E.T.F.O. Provincial during the 2009-2010 school year. If your E.T.F.O. local would like to conduct a Digital Storytelling workshop, contact your ETFO PD Chair.
I would be happy to work in your classroom with you and your students, at a school or community event or a conference. For more information on what I can offer you see my Presentations and Workshops page.
